Creation of channel and access to the channel

1. What is a channel on Yaika!?

There are two types of channels on Yaika!: Video and Radio. Both types of channels work very similar to blogs.

By clicking on the "Create" button on the home screen, you can select what type of channel you would like to start. While creating a channel you also have to specify channel category, region of viewers (local and/ or international), age permission and level of access.
You can begin to broadcast after the channel is created.

Video channels may only contain video broadcasts and Radio channels only radio broadcasts. However, you also have the option to add text post to both types of channels and other users can read and leave comment on such posts.

2. What is the difference between a channel and a broadcast?

On Yaika! every channel is like a blog and every broadcast is like a blog post. Blog posts could be done by video, radio or text postings.

To start broadcasting just click “Start streaming” button located on:
- your home page, where the list of your created channels is displayed. The button is located under every created channel. So you can start a broadcast on aN already created channel;

3. How much does it cost to create a channel on Yaika!?

Its FREE.

4. Do I have to sign up to create a Channel?

Yes.

5. How can I create a channel?

Click “Create” button on the top menu to create a channel. When creating a channel, the following information needs to be entered:

Channel type: video or radio;
Channel name;
Channel category: you can select a category which is most suitable for you content;
Broadcasting area: Do you want the world to see your channel or just your region?
Age restriction. Please note - age restriction depends on channel content and local laws
All – the channel is available for all users without any age limits;
13 – this channel will be restricted to users below the age of 13;
16 - this channel will be restricted to users below the age of 16;
18 - this channel will be restricted to users below the age of 18;
Permission level:
Everyone – this channel will be available for all users on Yaika!;
My network – Only your contact will be able watch this channel;
Only me – you are the only person who will be able to watch this channel;
Channel description and tags are not mandatory fields but such information helps others to find your channel.

6. How can I start broadcasting on an existing channel?

Just click on "Start streaming" button on your home page. You will find this button under the channel icon.
Broadcasting will be started after you click ”Start feed” button.
Please note, that you have to allow Adobe Flash Player to access your camera and microphone in the pop-up window.

7. How can I limit an access to created feed?

You can limit access by setting a password. Only users who know this password will have access to your feed.

8. What is a Quickstream!?

Some people do not want to create a channel, but just share or show something that just happened. Quickstream is the perfect solution for that. They can share their experience at a press of a button and then finish.
Click “Quick stream” button to start broadcasting. This button is placed on your home page. After that you have to select type of broadcast: Video or Radio, and your live!

Quick stream has the following parameters:
- Broadcasting area: Quick stream can be listed on Yaika! International area and local area;
Age restriction:
18 – Quickstream is restricted for users below the age of 18;
Permission level:
Everyone – Quick stream is available for all users of Yaika! who meet the age requirement;
Broadcast name: current date will be set.

Please note that you can watch/ listen a Quickstream only during live/ air broadcasting. All data will be deleted after you stop the broadcast.

9. What is a Try broadcast?

This function was created specially for users who prefer to test site functions before registration.

Try broadcast has the following parameters:
- Broadcasting area: the broadcast can be listed on Yaika! International area and local area;
Age restriction:
18 – the broadcast is restricted for users below the age of 18;
Permission level:
Everyone – the broadcast is available for all Yaika! users who meet the age requirement;
Broadcast name: current date will be set.

Please note that you can watch/ listen "Try broadcast" only during live/ air broadcasting. All “Try broadcast” data will be deleted after you stop the broadcast.

10. How many webcams can I broadcast with at the same time?

There are no limits on the amount of webcams you can use during your broadcast. The only limitation is your computer.

11. How many microphones can I broadcast with at the same time?

Video broadcasting: You can only use one microphone.
Radio broadcasting: You can use up to six microphones.

12. How can I delete a broadcast?

To remove one of your broadcasts, follow these steps:

1. Log in and open the broadcast page;
2. Click “Change” button;
3. Enter your account password in the Delete field;
4. Click “Delete” button;
The broadcast will not available for other users, after you delete it.

You cannot delete a broadcast until you have stopped streaming.

13. How can I delete a channel?

To remove one of your channels, follow these steps:
1. Log in and open the channel page;
2. Click “Change button”;
3. Enter your account password in Delete field;
4. Click “Delete” button;
The channel will not available for other users, after you delete it.

14. How long/large can my Broadcast be?

There is no limit on the amount of time a feed takes.

15. Is there a limit to how many Channels I can create?

There are no limits on the amount of channel each user can create.

16. Who can see my channels with permission level “Everyone”?

This channel is available for everyone. However, you will not be able to see a channel if your age is below the restriction level set by the author.

17. How do I make my channel private?

You can choose “Only me” permission level while creating a channel.
To change permission level on of your channels, follow these steps:
1. Log in and open the channel page;
2. Click “Change” button;
3. Choose “Only me” permission level;
4. Click “Save” button;

Only the channel author can view this channel.

18. How do I add another user to my contacts?

There are 3 ways to add a user to your list of contacts:
1. Open profile of that user (by click on the user’s avatar or icon). Click ”Connect” button and invitation message will be sent to the user;
2. Move your mouse cursor over the avatar area and you'll see a pop-up box with brief information about this user. Click ”Connect” button and invitation message will be send to the user;
3. Use “Build your network” function on your home page to invite your friends to register on Yaika!. After your friends create an account on Yaika! they will be added to your contact list automatically.

All users from your contact list can view your channels with “My network” permission level. But you can view channels of other users only after the user adds you to their contact list.
My Network contains such users who added you to their own Contact list and whom you added to your own contact list.

19. Can I remove a contact from My Network or Contact list?

To remove a contact from “My network“ or Contact list, follow these steps:
Log in and open your Home page.
Move mouse cursor over the avatar area and you'll see a box with brief information about this user pop up Click the "Disconnect" button.

20. Do all My Networks members see all my channels?

All your contact can watch your channels, unless the channel permission level is set to “me only” or the age restriction is higher than the person who would like to watch it.

21. I'm on my contact's profile page. Why can't I see all his channels?

You can see only channels with appropriate age restriction level and which do not have “Me only” permission level.

22. Who can see my private channels?

Nobody can see your channels if the permission level is set to “Me only”.

23. What is “Follow channel”?

You can add any available channel to the list of Favourites by clicking the “Follow channel” button. List of favourites channels is displayed on your home page so that you can quickly access them and build a community around that channel.

24. How can I start following a channel?

To start following a channel you have to click the “Follow channel” button on the channel page or on the broadcast page.

25. How do I remove a channel from my followed channels list?

To remove a channel from Favourites you have to click the “Stop following” button on the channel page or on the broadcast page (while the channel is streaming).

26. How does my channel get rating?

Channel rating is automatically calculated. The following parameters are used in order to calculate your rating: total amount of users who watched your channel, total duration of channel broadcasts, total amount of comment added to the broadcasts of the channel, amount of tags etc.

27. What is "Call" button function and when can I use this function?

Call-in allow you as the author and you as the watcher to interact with each other on a whole new level. You will be able to call-in when the author is streaming live and join in on the conversation for the world to see!

However, this is only during live streaming and if the author allows call-ins during the live broadcast.

- Channel author can activate call-in by pressing the “Call” button on the broadcast page;
- All registered users can call-in by clicking on the “Call” button if they are currently watching the broadcast.

After Channel creation

28. How do I remove one of my Channels?

To remove one of your channels, follow these steps:
1. Log in and open the channel page;
2. Click “Change” button;
3. Enter your account password in the Delete field;
4. Click “Delete” button;

The channel will not be available for other users to see after you delete the channel from Yaika!

29. How do I remove one of my Broadcasts?

To remove one of your broadcasts, follow these steps:
1. Log in and open the broadcast page;
2. Click “Change” button;
3. Enter your account password in Delete block
; 4. Click “Delete” button;
The broadcast will not be available for other users to see after you delete the broadcast from Yaika!

You cannot delete a broadcast until you have stopped streaming.

30. How do I change or add information I entered about my Channel or Broadcast?

To change or add to the information you entered about one of your channel, follow these steps
1. Log in and open the channel page;
2. Click “Change” button;
3. Change or add to the information you entered about the channel;
4. Click “Save” button;

To change or add to the information you entered about one of your broadcasts after you stopped streaming follow, then steps below:
1. Log in and open the broadcast page;
2. Click “Change” button;
3. Change or add to the information you entered about the broadcast;
4. Click “Save” button;

You can at any point change the feed name while broadcasting. Double click on the broadcast name field and change the name. Click on another area of the screen to save it.

31. How do I know who’s watched my channels?

To find out who watched your channel, follow these steps:
1. Log in and open your home page;
2. Click “Channel visitors” button. You can view channels visitors for each channel separately;
3. You can filter the list of channel visitors by using the following criteria from the drop-down menu:
All visitors;
Channel followers;
Visitors connected to me – These are the people that are connected to you
Visitors I'm connected to – These are the people you are connected to
Visitors from My network – This is your network (people who are connected to you, and you are connected to them).

32. What are tags? How do I add them?

Tags are keywords that describe channels or feeds. Tags help you label channels in order for other people to find them more easily. Add tags to your channels or broadcasts when creating a channel or on the channel page. If you want to add more complex tags, then use underscore between the words. Any registered users can add tags to any channel. However, the author of the channel can delete any tags added to their channel, other users can only delete tags they have added themselves.

33. How do I change the category of my channel?

To change category of one of your channel, follow these steps below:
1. Log in and open the channel page;
2. Click “Change” button;
3. Choose the appropriate category;
4. Click “Save” button;

34. What does the channel rating represent? (AGAIN THIS POINT IS REPEATED IN 57 )

Channel rating represents popularity of the channel between on Yaika!
The following parameters are used in order to calculate your rating: total amount of users who watched your channel, total duration of channel broadcasts, total amount of comment added to the broadcasts of the channel, amount of tags etc.

35. Can I change my channel rating?

Channel rating is calculated automatically. The only way to increase your rating is to have an active channel with interesting content and attract viewers

Broadcast Comments

36. What is the difference between chat and comments?

You can only chat during a live broadcast, and the history will be deleted after the authors stopped streaming.
Comments can be added and viewed at anytime, by any registered users.

37. Who can use the chat?

Registered users only.

38. Who can add comments?

Registered users only.

39. I am unable to comment during live broadcasts.

If you are not a registered user, then you need to register in order to add comments. However, if the problem still persists, try to delete your browser's cache and cookies, re-launch your browser, and log in to Yaika! If problem still hasn’t been fixed, please contact our support centre.

40. How do I edit or delete a comment I made on someone else's broadcast?

You can only delete your own comments by click the "Delete" button next to the comment. However, if you decide to delete your comment, all replies to it will also be automatically deleted.

The author of the channel can delete any comments left on their channel.

41. Why can’t I use features on Yaika!, what should I do?

All registered users can access all available features on Yaika! However, guests do not have permission to:
- Create own channels and broadcasts;
- Add comments on a broadcast;
- Create own network of users;
- Follow a channel;
- Use the message centre

42. I made a comment during a Broadcast, but it hasn’t appeared. What happened?

There is a slight delay between when a comment was posted and when it appeared on the feed page.

43. How do I remove a comment from one of my broadcasts?

As a channel author you have the permission to delete any comments made during your broadcast.

Click the "Delete" button next to the message you would like to delete. Please note that you'll also delete any replies made to that comment.

44. How do I control comments made during live broadcast?

Any registered users can add comments and chat during your broadcast.
As the author of the channel you can delete any comments added.
The only thing you have to do is to press the "Delete" button next to the comment you want to delete. Please note that you will also delete any replies made to that comment.

45. How do I comment during broadcasts?

Just press “Post a comment” or “Reply” button to add a comment during a broadcast.

46. Does Yaika! put any limit on my comments?

Yes, the maximum length is 1000 symbols.

47. Can I change the order in which comments appear?

Yes, you can change the order of comments. Default order is last comment on top.
Press “Oldest on top” to change the order of comments.

Records

48. Who can use this function?

Only logged in users can record live feeds. You can find your own records in the Records tab on your home page.

49. How can I start to record a feed?

To start feed recording you have to log-in and open the feed page. Press “Record” button to start recording and “Stop” button to stop recording.

50. Can I record my own feed?

Only logged in users can record live feeds. You can find your own records in the Records tab on your home page.

51. Where will I find the records I have done before?

You can find your own records in the Records tab on your home page.

52. Can I prohibit recording of my feed?

Yes, you can prohibit recording of your feed. You should uncheck Allow Recording check-box while creating new feed.

53. Can I protect my record by password?

Yes, you can set a password for your record. Password protection is available in edit mode which can be activated by pressing “Edit” button on the record page.

File upload

54. What kind of files I can upload on Yaika!?

You can upload video files under video channel and audio files under audio channels.
Available video file formats: avi, flv, mp4, mov, mpeg, 3gp or wmv;
Available audio file formats: mp3, aac, ogg, wma, mp4 or wav).

55. How can I upload video or audio file on Yaika!?

You can upload new files on your home page or on definite channel page:
- You can start upload by pressing “Upload” button under corresponding channel (My Yaika page, My video channels or My radio channels tab);
- On definite channel page you should click “Upload” button to start upload a file.

56. Where will I find uploaded files?

You can find your uploaded files in the Records tab on your home page.

57. How can I limit access to the uploaded file?

You can limit access by setting a password. Only users who know this password will have access to your uploaded file.
